Announcing a new Water Rangers water monitoring opportunity! 

Join us on World Water Monitoring Day, Friday, September 18, when we launch our first-ever Sampling Surge. 

What is a Sampling Surge? Inspired by Kentucky Watershed Watch, SRAP’s Water Rangers Program is kicking off a new weeklong water monitoring opportunity for you to hold CAFOs accountable in your community! Here’s how you can join the surge:

• If you are a current WR volunteer and you have monitoring equipment:
  1. Go out and test water in your community! It can be one site or multiple sites. 
  2. Take some pictures of the site and a selfie if you’re feeling up for it!
  3. Submit your results, pictures, and any interesting observations or questions to us via our google form.
  4. We will post some community member submissions if you give us permission and follow-up with you afterwards with any of our observations and to see if you need any further support.

• If you are not a current WR volunteer and don’t have monitoring equipment, you can still participate!
  1. Go to a stream or lake that’s important to you in your community.
  2. Take a picture and a selfie if you’re feeling up for it!
  3. Submit your pictures and any interesting observations to us via our google form. Let us know if you’re concerned about pollution from industrial livestock facilities in your water. We’ll reach out to you to see if you’re interested in joining our program, getting trained in water monitoring, and receiving your own testing equipment!

Why participate in the Sampling Surge? This is an important time to test your water as CAFOs are starting to spread their waste on fields this fall, and it can run-off into surface water. It’s also helpful for us to see what you’re seeing out in the field. We hope you will join the surge!
