March 2nd event to provide expert information and resident testimony on the current community water crisis—who it impacts and what can be done

WHAT: Sprayfields & Wells: Hydrology, Public Health and Environmental Justice  is a public education event bringing together former government officials, national science experts, Delmarva public health authorities and local impacted residents. The goal: share information, provide answers and learn about the real-world impacts of private well contamination and public health risks in Sussex County.

Have you had your well tested? That’s the question many families and local communities need to be asking at this critical moment in Delaware. Right now in Sussex County if a resident depends on a private well for water, they have no idea if the water they re using for drinking, cooking, washing and bathing is safe. And the fact is no government agency is mandated to test wells. No one is watching. To protect their health, it’s up to individual homeowners to check their water safety. Many are low-income residents and from communities of color.

Sprayfields Wells: Hydrology, Public Health and Environmental Justice is a public forum featuring experts, doctors, researchers and scientists who will address the community impact of sprayfields, local geology and hydrology in Sussex County, and the public health risks that from high nitrate levels and other contaminants threatening communities.

This forum is sponsored by Socially Responsible Agricultural Project (SRAP), a national nonprofit organization working in communities across the nation impacted by factory farms. Co-sponsored by the citizen groups Protecting Our Indian River, Keep Our Wells Clean Concerned Citizens of Prime Hook
